What is an SAE?

A Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) is a project that students undertake outside of class time, specifically focusing on any division of agriculture. This hands-on experience allows students to apply what they've learned in the classroom to real-world agricultural settings, fostering both practical skills and a deeper understanding of various agricultural fields. The nature of SAE projects can vary widely, encompassing areas such as planting and managing a garden, working in an agricultural business, or conducting research on agricultural practices.

In contrast, the other choices do not accurately define an SAE. Projects completed during class time do not reflect the independent working nature of an SAE, while a theoretical approach to agricultural studies misses the practical application aspect that is integral to the concept of SAEs. A formal examination of agricultural knowledge does not support the experiential and applied learning that an SAE represents. Therefore, the focus on independent, outside-of-class agricultural projects clearly aligns with the true definition of an SAE.
